In a recent report of the rail transit systems in California, San Francisco's MUNI rail system received the highest grades in the Bay Area, while Santa Clara's VTA system received the lowest score.
The report, titled "Grading California's Rail Transit Stations Areas," was released by Next 10, a non-profit nonpartisian group and researched by the Center for Law, Energy and the Environment of the UC Berkeley School of Law.
"Top-performing transit stations tend to be located in the center of downtown-like environments and thriving, rail oriented neighborhoods. These stations provide access to housing, shopping, places of work and other amenities, " said Next 10 founder F. Noel Perry. "Most low-performing stations are on the outer edges of rail systems, often situated in low-density, industrial or auto-oriented neigborhoods."
Overall MUNI received a B score, BART scored a B-minus, and VTA scored a C-minus.
