Position Summary: Next 10 is seeking a highly motivated Communications Coordinator/Project Assistant to promote and support our organization’s research and public education tools.
This is the perfect opportunity for someone with a broad set of skills who is passionate about engaging Californians on critical environmental and economic issues. You will be part of a small team with access to a vast network of some of the best research minds in the state, working to expand the reach of our nonpartisan research.
The role encompasses the following essential functions:
1. Assist in project management:
- Assist Director of Research on online projects, including the Budget Challenge, California Choices, and the California Green Innovation Index website
- Work with online project content experts, design, and development consultants
- Manage design and development consultants for all Next 10 programs
- Work with communications firm to develop launch plans for online tools with continued outreach goals and strategies
- Event planning including agenda development, outreach, and logistical details for Next 10 convenings
2. Research assistance:
- Provide edits, feedback, and copy editing for Next 10’s research reports in a timely fashion
- Analyze and summarize outside research reports
- Participate in stakeholder meetings to help determine research direction and projects
3. Stakeholder outreach:
- Conduct ongoing email outreach regarding Next 10’s online tools and research to potential users
- Manage small-scale mailings of Next 10’s reports
- Regularly update contact database
- Research relevant conferences where Next 10 can play a role and exhibit at conferences on behalf of the organization
- Assist with software licensing efforts
- Work with consultants on the media release of research
4. Online marketing:
- Maintain Next 10’s presence on all social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn
- Create online advertisements promoting Next 10’s public outreach tools (including, but not limited to, Google AdWords)
- Draft and produce email newsletters promoting Next 10’s research
5. Website content:
- Oversee, edit, and advance Next 10 websites
- Draft content to promote new research, promote information about future events, add press releases to the site, and document news coverage
- Provide Analytics reports as needed and research ways to increase web traffic
- Manage website development team
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in marketing or communications. Or degree in related discipline to Next 10’s research, such as economics, political science, environmental studies, or English
- Minimum 2-4 years work experience in a related field
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and a willingness to both take initiative and direction in a team environment
- Superior copyediting skills and attention to detail
- Interest in California’s future with a commitment to Next 10’s mission and to working in a nonpartisan environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related office software
Additional Desired Skills:
- A working knowledge of California’s economy and climate/energy policies.
- Analytics tools, including Google Analytics
- Adobe Creative Suite skills (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Knowledge of basic HTML and website content management systems (CMS) — two of our sites use Drupal and one is WordPress
- Experience public speaking
- Experience creating online marketing content for email and social media networks
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
